Additional Classes and Workshops for Transition

Take advantage of our other free monthly workshops to prepare you for your transition. MFSC classes are open to all DoD cardholders and veterans 6-months post-transition. To see upcoming classes and for registration, click here.

  • ACING THE INTERVIEW 
    • The resume got you the interview, but interview skills are key to landing the job! Learn how to position yourself as the best candidate, different interview styles and techniques, practice traditional and behavioral interview questions and learn common pitfalls to avoid. Individual appointments for interview assistance or practice are welcome and encouraged. (Virtual version available on schedule)
       
  • CAREER CHOICES: REENLIST OR EXIT? 
    • This one-day, Military Lifecycle class for 1st and 2nd term Airmen and Sailors is intended to give service members at key milestones in their career the information to make an informed decision on their future career. Participants will focus on personal and professional assessment, civilian and military career options, financial planning, developing a professional network, and VA benefits. Offered quarterly.(Virtual version available on schedule)
       
  • CIVILIAN RESUME WRITING 
    • This class will cover the different resume formats and the advantages and disadvantages of each. Learn how to write powerful accomplishments that help you stand out from the competition, proper formatting, common mistakes to avoid, and so much more. Note: this class targets private sector resumes only.  (Virtual version available on schedule)
       
  • FEDERAL EMPLOYMENT 101: UNDERSTANDING USA JOBS
    • Navigating USA JOBS (Classroom Version) – Understanding the details involved in applying for federal jobs can feel confusing and overwhelming but the benefits of civil service are worth the effort! This course will help you navigate the USAJobs website and understand the different programs and application process from start to finish. Federal resumes are different than private sector resumes. Let us help you get ready to build your draft federal resume. Individual appointments for resume reviews or attending the Federal Employment 102: Federal Resume class afterward is highly recommended. 
       
  • FEDERAL EMPLOYMENT 102: FEDERAL RESUME WORKSHOP
    • FEDERAL RESUME WORKSHOP (Classroom Version) – Bring your draft resume, a job announcement, and a laptop to this interactive workshop. After attending the Federal Employment 101 class, this workshop allows for individual guidance on improving your personal federal resume in a small group environment. Resume reviews offered before the end of the class.
       
  • HIRING EVENTS
    • Join us for a free hiring event for service members, veterans, and military spouses. This event will feature a wide variety of employers from the public and private sector as well as workshops that will focus on improving competitive employment. Offered bi-annually. . (Call 808-474-1999 to speak with a Transition counselor to find out about any virtual hiring events)
       
  • LINKEDIN
    • Learn how to create your profile to capitalize off LinkedIn professional networking. In this interactive workshop, participants will learn how employers are taking advantage of the business and employment oriented social network to assist in networking, recruiting, and hiring. This class will demonstrate building your professional profile and summary, utilizing the job search functions, marketing yourself to LinkedIn recruiters, strengthening your network, and leveraging the LinkedIn resources to your advantage.   • SAVING AND INVESTING BASICS
    • If you have been able to put away extra money on a month-to-month basis, it’s always a good idea to think about ways that you can build on what you already have.  If you haven’t been able to put away as much as you’d like, here’s your chance to learn how. This workshop will teach you the basic skills and techniques of managing and budgeting your money; how to shop for investments; the difference between stocks, bonds, Roth and traditional IRAs, CDs, money market accounts, and more.  Make your money work for you. (Virtual version available on schedule)      
       
  • SMOOTH MOVE
    • This workshop features speakers from other agencies to provide you with a better understanding of the Permanent Change of Station (PCS) process. Topics include:  Financial Planning, TRICARE, Basic Entitlements and Allowances, Shipment of Household Goods, Shipping Your Vehicle, and Researching New Base and Location. (Virtual version available on schedule)    
       
  • SPOUSE TRANSITION SEMINAR
    • (Virtual) – During distance learning, we’ve provided a condensed half-day version of our day-long seminar. All the same information is still provided along with referral and resource materials Join us!
       
  • THRIFT SAVINGS PLAN (TSP)
    • The TSP is a retirement savings and investment plan for Federal employees and members of the uniformed services.  Please join us for this class that will explain the benefits of the Thrift Savings Program, the different funds that are available to invest in, TSP withdrawals and much more.  (Virtual version available on schedule)
       
  • TRANSITION HOT TOPICS (Classroom)
    •  Coming up on transition from the military?  Transitioning from military to civilian involves learning a lot of new information. This workshop incorporates some of the most commonly asked about topics during transition, including Survivor Benefit Plan, VA Benefits, VA Claim Filing, Tricare, LinkedIn and Salary Negotiation.
       
  • TRANSITION HOT TOPICS (Virtual)
    •  Transitioning in general can be challenging and stressful. Completing TAP classes online can leave you wanting more from your support services. This virtual webinar will provide you with resources and connect you with support services to assist with transition planning that you can access from the safety of your home. Even if you have been extended, don’t stop planning for your future life. The TAP team is here to support you and give you some Transition Motivation!
