NAYS START SMART Parent Participation Program
Start Smart Programs, created by the National Alliance for Youth Sports, helps kids get ready for sports and to succeed in life. It is an innovative step-by-step approach that builds confidence and self-esteem in a fun and safe sports environment. Start Smart was developed by top motor skill development specialists in the field of youth sports. Parent-child groups perform motor skill tasks that gradually build confidence in children while they are having fun at the same time. Each Start Smart Program utilizes the Start Smart Sports Readiness Test to help parents objectively measure kids' abilities. As the program progresses and children show improvement, the skills and exercises are altered so that each child remains challenged. Parents spend quality time together with their child while learning how to properly teach and support them in sports.
Start Smart participants will develop proper motor skills that will allow them to enjoy and succeed in their youth sports future!
Benefits of Participation
- Builds confidence and self-esteem in children
- Fun and positive early experience in sport
- Helps prepare kids for future sports participation
- Helps prepare kids and parents for specific sport
- Quality time together for parent and child
- Helps parents learn how to support and teach their child
- Most programs can be run either indoor or outdoor
This program was designed for children ages 3-5 and will require at least ONE parent to participate with them every session. Each Start Smart Program is designed as six one-hour sessions (one day per week for six consecutive weeks) to allow parents and their children to practice in-between sessions.

Navy CYP Portal
The Navy CYP portal is where parents are able to enroll their children into current sports that Navy YSF is offering. To access your family profile, you will require log-in information that was created by the Youth Sports staff at the time your registration forms were submitted. If you have children that are currently enrolled at a Navy Child Development Center (CDC) or at a Navy School Age Center (SAC), then you would utilize the same username and password to access your account. If you are having trouble accessing your family profile, come into our office to enroll your children in person.
Here’s how to get your children enrolled through our Navy CYP Portal:
2. Log in using your unique household user ID (provided by YSF staff upon registration or your household username).
3. Select 'Youth Recreation'.
4. Under 'Type,' select 'Youth Sports/Fitness/Health'.
5. Click 'Search'.
6. The next page will bring you to all of our current activities. Once you find the sport you would like to enroll your child in, please find their correlated age group. You will then add the activity to your cart.
a. If you are interested in waiving up your child to the next age group, you will need to enroll them in person at our Youth Sports Office and complete a ‘Waive Up’ form. You will not be able to enroll them to a higher age group through the Navy CYP Portal.
7. Please ensure you secure your child’s spot by completing your transaction with a payment ($60 for leagues and $25 for camps and clinics).
