Welcome to your JBPHH MFSC Employment Program! 

We provide free consultations, programs, and services to help military families and transitioning service members pursue their career goals. Workshops, events, and individual appointments are available for career planning, job seeking, resume writing, hiring events, starting your own business, translating military skills, and MORE!!!

Classes & Workshops

Classes open to all military/DoD ID cardholders – active duty, family members, retirees, Guard/Reserve. Sign up on the MFSC Class Schedule for classes to go after your goals! 

Class Descriptions

Federal Employment Overview (Virtual version) – For an overview of the Federal Employment application and resume writing world, you'll want to attend this class. This virtual class will touch upon subjects such as the difference between civilian and federal employment, the federal employment application process, hiring preferences, required documentation, and search techniques to find the job that best fits you. We'll also touch upon and provide you with samples of federal resume writing and the process AFTER you apply. This two-hour class will open up information that is much in demand. We invite you to attend to gain a better understanding of the next steps you'll take in your employment journey. For individual assistance or for resume reviews, emails and appointments are encouraged and welcome. 


Civilian Resume Writing – This class will cover the different resume formats and the advantages and disadvantages of each. Learn how to write powerful accomplishments that help you stand out from the competition, proper formatting, common mistakes to avoid, and so much more. Note: this class targets private sector resumes only.  (Virtual version available on schedule)


Acing the Interview – The resume got you the interview, but interview skills are key to landing the job! Learn how to position yourself as the best candidate, different interview styles and techniques, practice traditional and behavioral interview questions and learn common pitfalls to avoid. Individual appointments for interview assistance or practice are welcome and encouraged. (Virtual version available on schedule)


Salary Negotiations – Discussing money is uncomfortable for some and not so difficult for others. However, the same goes for many that we may be unsure about how to approach and guide the conversation when discussing our salary and/or benefits. This class guides you on how to look at negotiations so you won’t be so apprehensive about it, where to find the foundational information you need to bring to the negotiation table, how to start the conversation and what to do if the conversation doesn’t go the way you expected. We’ve got it covered so you don’t have to stress about it. (Virtual version available on schedule)


LinkedIn– Learn how to create your profile to capitalize off LinkedIn professional networking. In this interactive workshop, participants will learn how employers are taking advantage of the business and employment oriented social network to assist in networking, recruiting, and hiring. This class will demonstrate building your professional profile and summary, utilizing the job search functions, marketing yourself to LinkedIn recruiters, strengthening your network, and leveraging the LinkedIn resources to your advantage. Transition Hot Topics (Classroom) – Coming up on transition from the military?  Transitioning from military to civilian involves learning a lot of new information. This workshop incorporates some of the most commonly asked about topics during transition, including Survivor Benefit Plan, VA Benefits, VA Claim Filing, Tricare, LinkedIn and Salary Negotiation.


Transition Motivation (Virtual) – Transitioning in general can be challenging and stressful. Completing TAP classes online can leave you wanting more from your support services. This virtual webinar will provide you with resources and connect you with support services to assist with transition planning that you can access from the safety of your home. Even if you have been extended, don’t stop planning for your future life. The TAP team is here to support you and give you some Transition Motivation!


Boots2Business – Want to start your own business? This two-day seminar, provided by the U.S. Small Business Administration, will assist you in understanding the steps, stages, and activities related to launching and growing a business and provide training and orientation to the fundamental tools and strategies associated with executing plans to launch a new business. (Virtual version available on schedule)


Spouse Transition Seminar (Classroom) – Family coming up on transition from the military?  Here is a day just for spouses highlighting critical information and resources you need to succeed!  Think of it as a day of learning what the service member receives in TAP week but focused on the spouse and family perspective. Guest speakers answer all of your stressed-out questions and we hope you leave feeling a bit more confident in your transitioning journey. 


Spouse Transition Seminar Overview (Virtual) – During distance learning, we’ve provided a condensed half-day version of our day-long seminar. All the same information is still provided along with referral and resource materials Join us!


My Education Track (Classroom) – Transitioning military and their families - Want to go to school? This two-day course is designed to guide you through the myriad decisions involved in choosing a degree program, college institution, and funding as well as completing the admissions process. Much of the information is for undergraduate with adjustments made for graduate students. We start from the very beginning of the journey and go into the details to include admissions and VA Benefits! 


My Education Overview (Virtual) – Our virtual version provides a condensed, half-day, class will all of the same information as the original. As a bonus, for those transitioning out of the military who require a 2-day track, this overview, including a completed comparison chart, will meet that requirement. We still have the VA Advisor too! (Supplemental information can be obtained through the Accessing Higher Education course on JKO.)


In-Dependents Overview (Virtual) – During distance learning, join us for the condensed one-hour version online. The same topics are covered, and referral/resource materials are provided. There is a lot to learn for both the parent and the student, so we love to see the family attend together. We hope to “see” you there. 


Spouse Employment Boot Camp (Classroom) – A half-day workshop JUST for spouses where we cover the “basics” (get the joke in the title?) of employment!  Training includes civilian and federal resumes, job searching, career exploration, interviewing, salary negotiations, and more! Uniform not required. 


Volunteer Opportunities (Virtual) – Our virtual version of this class takes the original information and includes information specific to our current social distancing situation. Information includes options for volunteering in Hawaii, the JBPHH community and even virtually. Virtual class offerings are scheduled on every 3rd Thursday of the month at 1:30 PM. 

Free Training & Certifications

Onward2Opportunity falls under the DOD SkillBridge program and offers military spouses, guard and reserve, and transitioning military members one free certification in fields such as HR, Project Management, and IT.  Click here for more details. 


MyCAA offers up to $4,000 in financial assistance to eligible military spouses pursuing a license, certification, or Associate’s degree in a portable career field.  For more details click here


Military Spouse – Licensure Reimbursement: If your career requires a professional license or certification, your service branch can help reimburse costs that come up when you PCS. The military services continue to support military spouse employment by offering up to $1,000 in licensure and certification costs resulting from relocations or military moves within the United States or OCONUS to stateside.
