Transition Assistance


Welcome to your JBPHH Transition Assistance Program!  


Mandatory components of TAP include: Step 1: Initial Counseling, Step 2: TAP workshop, and depending on your transition readiness – a tailored 2-day workshop track.  Step 3: Capstone is the final mandatory step for every service member.  Please review all sections/tabs, and call 474-1999 for any specific questions.

IAW NDAA 19, effective 1 Oct 2019


Initial Transition Counseling is required greater than 365 days prior to separation/retirement.  If you would like to prepare for your appointment, download and complete the Individual Assessment from the Download section.


AIR FORCE: Call 474-1999 to schedule this transition appointment.

NAVY: Contact your Command Career Counselor to schedule this appointment.

The TAP Workshop is to aid your transition to the civilian sector.  Dress code is business casual.  The following are not allowed in class: shorts, t-shirts, hats, slippers, or offensive clothing.  Attendance is mandatory; no conflicting appointments are to be scheduled.


AIR FORCE: You’ll be scheduled for the TAP Workshop and appropriate 2-day track during your Initial Transition Counseling with an MFSC Transition Counselor.

NAVY: You’ll be scheduled for the TAP Workshop and appropriate 2-day track during your Initial Transition Counseling with your Command Career Counselor.


TAP Workshop agenda effective 1 Oct 2019:

Monday: 0715-1600: PreSeparation Counseling, Transition Planning, Financial Planning

Tuesday: 0730 – 1600: VA Benefits
Wed-Fri: 0730-1600: Dept of Labor – Employment Workshop

            *Note: TAP agenda will be modified again IAW NDAA 19, estimated date 1 Jan 2020


Prior to TAP, use your CAC card to register for an e-Benefits account at  Take the additional step of registering for a DS Logon username and password to ensure post-transition access.

You are highly encouraged to bring your own laptop to class, or a thumb drive/external drive. If you do not have a lap top, we have lap tops available to loan.

Boots2Business/Entrepreneurship (pursuing business ownership)

Vocational (vocational fields)

Dept of Labor – Employment (entering the civilian workforce)


Spouses are highly encouraged to attend TAP and all other workshops, and may attend with or without their service member.  Spouses can register when their service member registers during Initial Counseling or spouses can self-register on our GreatLifeHawaii MFSC Class Schedule for 2-day tracks.  Spouses can register for the 3-day TAP workshop through an MFSC Transition Counselor (474-1999) or a Navy Command Career Counselor.  MFSC also offers a fantastic one-day Spouse Transition Seminar


TAP Workshop and Track Class Location: MFSC, 4827 Bougainville Drive, Honolulu, 2nd Floor, Rooms 293-294.  Our facility is behind the Moanalua Shopping Center/Ruby Tuesdays and labeled “MFSC/PSD”

Capstone is the final mandatory Transition Workshop and must be completed greater than 90 days before separation/retirement.  We’ll review the required Career Readiness Standards that were identified during your Initial Transition Counseling and discussed during the TAP workshop.
