Holiday Events for Single Service Members

Do you need help finding ways to stay active, creative, productive or just have fun this holiday season? MWR has got you covered! Check out the special activities we have lined up for the rest of the year.  You can also download a flyer listing the events.

Now - December 1
• Share Your Holiday Photo! Post a high-resolution photo of you, your family, or even your pet, enjoying the holidays and hashtag it #glhholidaypic. We will take your photo and creatively display it on the Freedom Tower lawn for the holidays.
• Ugly Sweater Contest. Post a high-resolution photo with you or your besties in your ugly sweaters and hashtag it #glhsweater. Don't forget to tell eveyone to like your post because the photo with the most likes will win a prize! 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be awarded. All photos will be creatively displayed at our new Liberty Center.

November 1-21
• Aquatics Turkey Giveaway.  We know you've had to use your imagination in satisfying your pool craving.  Post on social media with the hashtag #aquaticsathome the creative ways you set up your “at home” pool. We’ll pick a winner and give them a FREE turkey! Call 473-0394 for more info.

November 10 – December 22
• MWR Resiliency Cup. Various weekly tournaments will take place every Tuesday and Thursday (except on Thanksgiving) with video game tournaments, darts, bocce ball, cornhole, etc.  You and your command will be competing for points. Command and individual prizes to be awarded, including NEX gift cards for the players and MWR cash for the commands. In the end, one command will get to lay claim to the Resiliency Cup. November 15 - 21
• Turkey Giveaway from MWR Bowling. Sign up to win a FREE turkey from Hickam or Pier Side Bowling Centers. Winners announced Nov. 23. Call 473-2574 for info.  

November 19 – 25
• Roll a Turkey for a FREE Game from MWR Bowling. Roll 3 strikes in a row (that’s called a Turkey in bowling!) at Hickam or Pier Side Bowling Center and you'll win one FREE game of bowling. Call 473-2574 for info.

Thursday, November 26
• Liberty Holiday Meal Service. Shout out to Single Service Members!  You can pick up a FREE premade holiday dinner plate at Liberty Express, Makai Liberty or Paradise Lounge, beginning at 11 a.m. Limited availability, first come, first serve! 

Friday, November 27
• Bowling Special.  Bowl for 2 hrs (5:30 – 7:30 p.m.) at Hickam or Pier Side Bowling Alley for only $5/person, shoes included. Up to 5 people per lane.

November 27 - December 4
• Photo Home for the Holidays. Come take an individual picture or with a group of friends. Postcard will be provided for you to write a personal note. MWR will print and send your picture to your favorite person.  Photos taken at Paradise Lounge from 27 Nov - 1 Dec. and at Makai Recreation Center from 2 - 4 Dec.

November 30-December 10
• Your Holiday Masterpiece. Pick up a 2’x4’ wood piece from MWR then show off your creativity and create a holiday work of art. MWR will display your masterpiece at Freedom Tower for the holidays. Visit jbphh.greatlifehawaii.com for info.

Monday, November 30
• Hickam Harbor Full Moon Paddle. 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.  Bask in your kayak for a slow paddle under the full moon. $5/person.  Click here to register.

Now - December 18
• Gingerbread House Decorating Contest. Show off your creatvity!  Create a "gingerbread house" (no gingerbread required!) and send us a collage of the before, during and after photos of your creative proess. Tag us @greatlifehawaii on social media and be sure to use the hashtag #glhgingerbread. 

December 1-24
• 12 Days of Fitness Holiday Challenge at JBPHH Fitness Centers.  See if you can complete 12 specific exercises within 6-12 workouts and you can win a workout towel. FREE, call 448-2214 or 471-2019 for more info.

December 1-30
• Pick a Game from MWR Bowling. Come in and pick a “gift”.  What you pick determines what you’ll pay for a game that day. Call 473-2574 for more info.

December 7 – 11
• Aquatics Holiday Relay Competition, 5 p.m. at Scott Pool. Gather your team (4 persons max) and join us for five days of fun relay races in the water. A different race each day with daily prizes for the fastest teams, courtesy of MWR Aquatics. Call 473-0394 for more info.

December 2-30 (Wednesdays only)
• Stand Up Paddle Boarding Lessons @ Hickam Harbor. 10 – 11 a.m.  Get a fun lesson on this popular water sport.  You'll be up and riding in no time!  $5/person.  Register by clicking on the dates below.

• Sunset Cruise with Outdoor Recreation. 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. at Hickam Harbor.  Enjoy a sunset on the water.  We supply the boat captain. Only $5/person.  Register by clicking on the dates below.

• Holiday Photo Scavenger Hunt.  Get your phones & cameras ready, we're challenging you to a Holiday Photo Scavenger Hunt! Take a selfie at various locations with various requirements and fill in your Bingo Card with your selfies for great prizes!
