SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Assists the Golf Course Manager in planning and directing a variety of golf activities, leagues, tournaments, clinics and other special events for all levels of play and competition. Instructs novices and players who wish to improve their skills in playing golf.
- Incumbent is responsible for assisting the Golf Course Manager with the efficient operation and administration of two golf courses. Assigned areas include, but are not limited to, pro shops, driving ranges, locker rentals, golf carts, storage barns, club rentals, golf lessons, and retail storage rooms.
- Supervises and maintains a complete handicap system for all members. Provides professional and technical assistance in interpretation and clarification of the rules of golf, offering continuous training programs to promote good golf etiquette. Represents the command in PGA matters, if required. Supervises and enforces rules and regulations set forth by higher authority and provides professional advice to all Clubhouse committees and groups.
- Responsible for supervising the retail operations for both golf course operations, specializing in golf lines and clothing accessories. Ensures stock on hand is reviewed and monitored for slow moving, shop worn or damaged merchandise and effects markups/markdowns, as appropriate. Analyzes market trends and establishes contact with vendors. Ensures stock levels meet with demand and volume of income trends. Ensures accountability of stock and submission of monthly physical inventory counts. Monitors special orders, layaways and gift certificate purchases. Prepares purchase orders and forwards receiving documents to accounting for prompt payment of invoices.
- Assists the Golf Course Manager in supervising fourteen full-time Recreation Assistants (NF-02), two Recreation Aids (NF-01) and fourteen laborers (NA-03), and additionally five flexible scheduled laborers (NF-03). Plans and adjusts work schedules to meet workload and program requirements.
- Participates in selecting subordinate positions, hearing and resolving employee complaints and concerns, recommending disciplinary measures such as warnings and reprimands, identifying need and scheduling training, developing budget input, reviewing work for compliance with policies and procedures. Promotes and executes EEO policies and procedures.
- Provide input to the Golf Course Manager to develop an annual budget for responsible areas. Keeps the Golf Course Manager fully informed of anticipated problems and any other information considered important to the chain of command. Assists in executing and monitoring budget and actual progress monthly.
- Maintains records such as green fees, cart rentals, club repairs, lessons and tournaments. Provides for a high level of customer service in all facets of the operation. Develops, promotes, organizes and coordinates golf tournaments and leagues. Enforces all regulations governing the use of the golf courses, ensuring only authorized patrons are permitted to play.
- Ensures starting time reservations are handled properly, receiving and recording user fees from golfers, supervising groups, counseling golfers in rules and regulations of the course, advising golfers of safety practices and golf etiquette, patrolling the golf course, and ensuring that current procedures are properly followed for depositing daily operating funds.
- Performs related duties as assigned by the Golf Course Manager or the Sports and Fitness Director.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of the game of golf, rules of play, and a particular knowledge of golf equipment and wearing apparel. Certification of membership in the Professional Golf Association desired.
- Knowledge and skills in Non-Appropriated fund budget preparation and implementation.
- Knowledge of Non-Appropriated fund personnel regulations and guidelines.
- Experience in a managerial and administrative capacity, necessary to perform the duties of the position.
- Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions and judgment based upon facts.
- Ability to exercise diplomacy and maintain good public image with members, commands and the local community.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
RESPONSIBILITY
Works under the direct supervision of the Golf Course Manager, but must be able to work independently without constant supervision and will advise supervisor of major problem areas when required.
PHYSICAL EFFORT
Physical exertion ranges from light to moderate and involves regular standing, walking, sitting, bending and stooping.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work performed in well-lighted, ventilated sales/office areas or outdoors, when necessary, under varying weather conditions. Normal safety precautions are required.
OTHER
Position IS NOT telework eligible.
Occasional travel of less than 20% may be required, as needed for training, and travel between facilities within JBPHH.
Driver’s License required.
