Cardboard Paddle Battle

Build it. Paddle it. Race it!

SAT • MAR 28 | 8-10 a.m. | Scott Pool  

Think you’ve got what it takes to build a boat out of nothing but cardboard and duct tape, and race it to victory? Grab a partner and put your creativity, engineering, and teamwork to the test at the Cardboard Paddle Battle! 

Participants must show up at 7:45 a.m.! Visit Scott Pool to sign up your team. 

Boat Construction Rules:

  1. Boats must be fully constructed before the race
  2. The entire boat must be constructed only from cardboard and duct tape.The only exception is decorative elements.
  3. Duct tape may be used in various colors for creativity, but all tape must be manufactured in that color (no altering).
  4. Cardboard cannot be sealed with any sealants.
  5. Absolutely no resin, resin paints, fiberglass, plastic, or laminations of any kind.
  6. Decorations are encouraged as long as they don’t affect structural strength and buoyancy.
  7. If any illegal materials are discovered during pre-race or post-race inspections, the boat will be disqualified.

Race and Competition Rules:

  1. A maximum of two (2) participants per team is allowed.
  2. All participants must arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled race time.
  3. The race is time-based; the fastest boat to complete the course wins.
  4. Boats must be propelled only by paddles and/or hands.
  5. Paddles can be of any type.
  6. No physical contact between competing boats or participants is allowed during the race.
